Part 1:
Write a two paragraph summary of an idea for a high school level unit plan. Describe the topic you think it should address along with the subtopics that you feel are relevant for students to learn. Also describe some possible activities, labs, or projects that you hope will engage your students. Be prepared to present and advocate for your topic in class as a possible collaborative unit plan topic.

One possible topic for a high school unit plan is genetics. This unit plan will cover an introduction to genetics, the structure of DNA, and genetic mutations. Genetics is a major topic for the students to understand the world around them. a unit plan on genetics is quite extensive and way take quite a bit of time. However, it is crucial for the students to understand these concepts.

Each one of these subtopics will have an activity to reinforce the content. For the introduction to genetics, the students will use punnett squares to learn about genetic ratios. A lab for this lesson is breeding flies and investigating the different phenotypes. For the lesson on the structure DNA, the students will be constructing a 3-D model of DNA with labels. For genetic mutations the students will be looking at case studies and eventually creating their own genetic disease. these three major subtropics make up the unit on genetics. This unit can be altered for middle school.
